You shouldn't ever have to ask someone to be your best friend in the first place. Just be confident in your friendship and do all that you can to live up to the title of "best friend". If you act like her best friend, care about her, and listen to her, then she will feel that you are her best friend and that is what you ultimately want. It isn't just about you. This is about how she feels, right? So, let her decide who her best friend is.
