As any good pick-up artist will tell you, you shouldn't just go and ask the person's name right away, especially if they haven't been giving you indicators of interest. The person doesn't know you at all, and if they haven't been showing you that they like you then at this point they will probably not want to give their name to a stranger. What you should do instead is go up to the person (with a smile) and open with a neutral comment, preferably about the place/situation that you are in at the moment. As soon as you have built a little rapport, you can go ahead and ask their name, or maybe they will ask you themselves..!
