have seen this before. First of all make sure the scope comes up well for the eye you need. Using shooting glasses place a piece of tape to block the view of the weak eye. Practise putting the scope on the target. Once yo are comfortable with this practice shooting and finding targets at other ranges. Variable power scopes help, turn the power down and it makes finding target quicker and much easier. Try a 1.5x6 power scope, great for this.

A benchrest rifle is a terrible brush hunting gun. Just as there is no best overall hammer or best overall vehicle, there is no best overall rifle. Use the right tool for the job.

well hunting rifle is a relitive term most people shoot something like a bolt action with a five round magazine. i have seen hunting rilfes that weigh anywhere from 6 pounds dry to 25 lbs dry it all depends on what you are doing if you are hiking a lot and moving i recommend a light rifle if you are sitting in one spot all of the time you can get away with a heavier rifle but if you don't have a clue what you are doing i would go with a Remington 700 adl with a 24 inch barrell in probably 270 which will put you right about 9 pounds that is what i shoot and i pack for 20 per day so i would go with that =-=-=-=-= If my rifles get heavier than about 7-8lbs I no longer enjoy toting them around the farm all day for hunting groundhogs. ---------- Yes alas why i didn't say a toting 25 pound rifle

You may love the Winchester Mdl 70, and I may love my Browning BAR, and Fred will think his Accu-trigger Savage is the best rifle ever made. Strange thing is- we would ALL be right. A benchrest rifle will be too heavy to carry hunting, an autoloader may be a great hunting rifle in Virgina, but not allowed in Pennsylvania, etc. There is no single mainstream gun maker I would shy away from, and if you find the rifle that fits your shoulder, and your wallet, you will be convinced that THAT rifle is the BEST 270 ever made. If you placed the shot right, then yes, it could. However, if I had to pick a round for that purpose, the .38 Special would not be it. If you're hunting wild hogs, or just trying to put down a domesticated one, you really need a rifle.
