Well, if you are speaking of an ancient ninja, then you would first have to be of either the clan Iga or Koga. If you happened to be of either of these clans, then you would start as what was called a "genin," the lowest rank of ninja. As a genin, you would mainly do scouting and recon jobs. As you learned your art, you would eventually become a "chunin," the middle class of ninja, assuming that you were deemed skilled enough. As a chunin you would do more dangerous missions, such as the less important assassinations. You would also help the "jonin," the highest rank, with anything they might need. Finally, you would aspire to become a jonin. If you succeeded, it would be your job to do the most important jobs, such as assassinating a king. Contrary to common belief, the Koga and Iga ninja largely worked in harmony. They did not usually do jobs together, but they rarely fought either.
If you are speaking of learning the arts of the ninja now, then the answer is much simpler. There are multiple "schools" of Ninjutsu, which is the martial art the ninja used. A Google search should easily find a ninjutsu dojo nearby. You can also learn by watching YouTube videos of different techniques and then copying them.
