Usually it means the IP address is wrong, did you put :25565 at the end of it? Or you don't have the right game version for the server. With the new Minecraft launcher you can have many different versions now so make sure you pick which one you need form the menu.

ASP stands for Active Server Pages.
Unlike some games, Minecraft doesn't include a list of (randomized or any other form of displaying) online multiplayer games. Instead, it gives you the freedom of choosing that games appear on your multiplayer listing; you will need to create a list yourself. To do this, ask around! If you have friends who play Minecraft, perhaps they run a server of their own. Alternatively, you can try browsing the web for servers of your interest. If anyone else in your household plays Minecraft, you can play through LAN (Local Area Network) with them.
I highly doubt it, Minecraft isn't avaliable in disc form... only ask a digital download from the Minecraft website or XBox.
