If you have never played Guitar Hero before, start on easy and go through on easy. Once you feel comfortable go to medium and try that. Once you get comfortable with medium you can continue practicing on medium or try moving up and playing hard. Once you get good at hard then you should be able to get through expert. Some songs will take quite a bit of practice and retrying so just continue practicing and you should make it up there.
