Here is my receipe for beating Lucia: First, pick up her returns as quickly as possible and use a lifting paddle motion to impart topspin on the ball. If you hit the ball late, you'll end up backing up from the table, and she'll have the advantage of being able to angle the ball away from you. Angle is the key to getting the upper hand. Being right handed, I use my forehand to work her to my left side of the table. The most important thing is to go for the sharpest angles you can. The best way to do that is to work with the spins he gives you. For example, if you're trying to go to the right, wait for him to give you a slow shot that is spinning into you in that same direction.
