You free the unicorn using the Laser Lance, then fire it against the Phoenix birds. The Lance fires two ways -- a short blast and a more powerful one that takes a few seconds to build up. Press your mouse button and hold it as the lance charges up, then release. This blast will wipe out several small "bee" birds, the red torpedo birds, and eventually the Mother Phoenix (shoot her three times in the head).
