FYI: If you have a pile of seige weapons, you can usually just throw those at the city with transports to carry out the loot. But always send at least one pike, sword and archer as fodder. It will reduce your losses dramatically. (use the excerise and you'll see)
I only attack level 5 NPCs. You can attack them without losses by using 500 ballistas and 500 transports. Actually, with a decent hero you can usually win with 350 ballistas. A level 5 NPC will give you 3 million food plus a bunch of other resources. It takes 12 hours to rebuild its resources so you can hit it twice a day if you want to get a steady source of cheap resources.
