This really depends on what type of photographer you would like to become. There's everything from industrial photographers to different kinds of photojournalism. To work as any type of photographer a college degree in Photography or other much related areas is usually required. I would start off by getting at least an associate degree and then get a few years work experience as an assistant basically. After a while, when you've built up your portfolio, I would either go back to school to specialize my knowledge within an area, or just try to apply for my dream position.
