Becoming a sangoma is not a personal or professional choice, you are chosen to become a sangoma. We are not all destined to become a sangoma, but much rather, the spirit world invites the chosen, the one. The chosen one must obey, and if one is not willing to enter their calling, they will be made to enter their destiny as there really is no choice other than to be submissive to the role to be fulfilled.
There are technically no time frames for ubungoma initiation. I think the word study takes away what exactly happens when one is being initiated as Sangoma. The most critical part of this initiation is to develop, for a lack of a proper word, the spirits that has pointed that said person to go for this initiation, develop the understanding between the spirits and the initiate. By the way you cannot put a time frame. But usually it takes 12 and more months. To drive my point home the is a stage they call ukukhuphula, this is when the spirits are no longer sharp as before for the "graduate" initiate and he has to go to the Experianced sangonga for reinforcement of the relationship between the spirits and the initiates. Historical the Sangoma/Sanusi is not suppose to dispense any muti, but must tell you what is happening in your life and refer you to the inyanga for treatment or attention to your problem. Commercialization of everything has changed that order.

I can manage Sangoma (Spiritualist) and Nyanga (Herbalist) but Nyangoma sounds odd. Anyone else? Is this perhaps 'Lion King' vocabulary? In most bantu languanges "ngoma" means musik, "nya" most likely ( Iam not quite sure) means place. In this case "Nyangoma" would mean a place, where musik is played.
