You will locate a training facility and attend classes where you will be taught the skills of an aide. In Ohio, we were required to preform 16 hours of clinical at a LTCF. I'm not sure about other states. After completion of the course, you will be given a certificate which will allow you to work 4 months over a period of 2 years before taking your test (if still employed after 4 months, by law, your employer is required to pay you to have the course retaken). After getting your certificate of completion, you will take your state test (written and skills) to be licensed.

Can you become a stna in Ohio with a felony?
Yes you can. I am a felon myself and I called a STNA school. They said you can take the class to become one. It just depends on the company if they would like to hire you. Even if not, you can be a HHA because my cousin has a felony and is now working as a HHA. However, before her felony, she did direct care and was even a team leader at one point. So it is possible.
