Blood type is the presence or absence of inherited substances on the surface of a blood cell. Different types of substances on the blood cells means different blood types. O negative blood type means there is absolutely no substance on the surface of the blood cell. Which type of substance on the blood cell is genetic and is inherited by a biological parent therefore you "end up" with O negative blood by inheriting it from your biological parents.
