A locked phone is good to know about when purchasing a used phone. When someone says "locked phone" it usually means that the phone is not able to be activated until the bill through the carrier is paid in full.
You do infact need a special code to unlock your locked cell phone. Many times of you call your cell phone service provider they will give you the code required to unlock your phone. If that option does not work there is many sites that offer unlock codes for free as well.
A cheap and unlocked cell phone would have a lot of options and capabilities compared to an locked phone. This person would have more access to applications and programs on their phone.
The negatives of a Vertu cell phone is that the price for such a cell phone is quite high and if one was to accidentally break it, the cost of the replacement outweighs the benefits.

The only phone that can be locked with a pin code is a cell phone. If a person wants to lock out the home phone, perhaps it would be a good idea to discontinue service on the home phone and just use the cell phone instead.
You cannot "De-brand" a cell phone. You can however unlock a cell phone. if that cell phone's software and hardware are compatible with another provider's network, then that unlocked phone can be used with the other provider. Your best bet is to ask the prospective service provider if the software/hardware on the phone that you want to unlock is compatible with their network before investing in the phone
You have to jail break it. You can find out how to jail break your phone on google. More than likely though, if you jail break your phone, it voids the warranty.
