Not all fireplaces have blowers so this is going to depend on your model. The blower is a part of the firebox and is usually inserted in a trap-door under the floor of the fireplace. From there the spinning louvers will send air out the bottom front or up along the back wall to turn and emit from above the opening of the fireplace. The actual blower looks like a soda can with long louvers running the length so the spinning can will generate additional air flow. Having installed and repaired dozens of these I would not attempt to "build" one. If your firebox is designed for a blower with the electrical requirements and the flue area defined add ing a blower designed for that box is cheap and simple.

Does burning a fireplace pull warm air out?

Yes, it certainly can. If you have a gas fireplace, I would certainly suggest adding a simple fireplace blower kit. They take the heated air created by your fireplace and force it back into your room. Adding a blower can save you hundreds of dollars a year in energy costs.

How does a fireplace warm the house?

Fireplaces, especially gas fireplaces, don't really do much to heat your home unless a fireplace blower or fan kit is installed. A blower kit will dramatically increase the efficiency of your fireplace by helping to distribute the heated air your fireplace produces into your home. They have kits and replacement blowers for most major brands of gas fireplaces. Even some wood fireplaces.

What type of fireplace would accept the blower?

You can install a fireplace blower in every fireplace. Just measure it so that you buy the right size. Too large and it won't fit, too small and you won't really feel an effect. Also don't buy too large because you will use more energy that way.

What can i do to make my wood burning fireplace generate more heat?

Fireplaces are generally pretty bad at heating. A set of doors for the fireplace can help. A heat exchange grate with a blower can get more warm air out into the room. The best solution is also the most expensive- a properly installed fireplace insert. This is basically a wood stove that fits into the fireplace.

What are some common tools used in the fireplace?

The most common tools used in a fireplace is a poker, a mini shovel, and a blower. The poker allows the wood to be turned over as it is burning. The mini shovel allows the ash to be removed when the fire place needs to be cleaned. A blower is used to force air into the fire allowing the wood to be caught ablaze quicker.

How do you work a fireplace with a fan?

is it wood or gas, usually it is either ran by a power switch that you manually turn on when you want the blower to run or it is on a temperature switch of some sort that turns the blower on when the unit reaches a certain temperature

How do fireplaces conserve energy?

Fireplaces don't necessarily conserve energy. In fact, many fireplaces can actually be wasteful energy appliances if not installed, used, and maintained correctly. For gas fireplace owners, I would certainly suggest adding a fireplace blower or fan kit. A blower kit will pull cool air from the lower louver and force air up and around your firebox. The air is heated as it travels around your firebox or insert and is eventually expelled out of the top louver. Without a blower kit installed, your gas fireplace is nothing more than something pretty to look at. Sure, you get some residual radiant heat, but it's nothing close to what's need to heat an entire room. Adding a simple blower kit to a gas fireplace can save you hundreds of dollars a year in home heating costs.
