The way I did one:
- Remove box (if equipped)
- Using a straight 2x4 I figured out the height of the mounts needed to accommodate the differences in frame height.
- I took four 2x8 planks and set them in line with the truck frame on the ground, two so they would sit on the frame and two at the outside edge.
- Then I put two side to side bed planks, 2x6 rough cut fir (because I am cheap), one at the very front and one at the rear.
- I made sure my deck was square using an X measurement
- Using 2x8 I built cross braces on both sides to make my deck ridged
- We the lifted the partially built deck onto the truck and bolted it down using the mounts I measured for and built earlier
- Then I finished decking the deck allowing a 1/8 gap between planks.
- I used some light sheet metal edging I had bent at the sheet metal fabricators but light angle iron will work fine.
- The signal lights live in some metal boxes I bought from the same place I got the signal lights.
