Go to File -> Burn DVD...
You use iDVD to make a menu for the imovie, and it will attach that to your movie. Insert a DVD, and a DVD icon will show on the desktop. Drag the file into the DVD. Right mouse click (or hold control and click) and click 'burn'. It will now play in your DVD player now that it has a menu to play it with. ---------------- I tried iDVD before, and it doesn't burn what I expect for. It did burn the DVD, but the DVD can't be play on my sony DVD player.
On a Mac you would use the iDVD application to create and burn your DVD. When you launch iDVD selecting the Magic iDVD option makes the job a simple drag and drop operation. Choose a theme, drag your movies and photos and music (from the panel on the right) into the boxes, check your work with the Preview button and then Burn to disc. You need to use the correct software. There are many freeware programs available, such as DVD Shrink. See the link below for a download place.
If you're trying to make a movie DVD, use iDVD. If you're just trying to put files on a blank DVD: put the blank disk in the drive, drag and drop the files you want to it, then eject it. It'll burn automatically.
To share a movie created in iMovie: From the iMovie Share menu select iDVD. Your project will be passed to iDVD where you can select a theme for your menu etc. When you have set up your DVD select Burn DVD... from the file menu. Once the DVD is created it can be played anywhere that plays DVD - computers, TV/DVD Player etc. If it is only a short movie one of the other options from the iMovie Share menu will probably suffice. A small movie can be emailed, burnt to a disc and shared with other computers, or posted directly to a YouTube account. The iMovie software itself will not work on a Windows computer.
Regardless of your operating system you need to "master" the DVD in order to use it in a DVD player. On Windows, insert a blank DVD into a DVD-writable drive and allow the computer to ask what you want to do. Tell the computer to "Burn a DVD video disc," add the files that you want to burn onto the DVD. After the files are encoded, the files are burned onto the DVD and finalized (the reason why it is called "mastered"). The disc is now playable on a DVD player. On Mac OS X, insert a blank DVD into your computer's DVD-writable drive or SuperDrive and open iDVD. Follow the wizard or create a custom disc and click the "Burn" button on the bottom of the window. After the disc is burned (and technically finalized), the DVD is able to be used in DVD players.
I do not know what you mean by DVD extras. Your Mac comes with iDVD which can be used to rip DVDs.
yes my DVD drive can burn
The iDVD player was created by Apple in 2001. Its purpose was to allow users of Apple products, such as Mac computers, to create DVDs of short movie clips, pictures, or music, that would play on regular DVD players.
A normal DVD burner should can burn both DVD-r and DVD-rw.
I don't think so. A DVD burner is necessary to burn a DVD. DVD or CD-rw drive could not burn DVD. And if you use a CD burner to burn DVD, when you play it, you will discover that only the audio is available, you can't get the picture. More details in the link.
because it is a DVD burner, not a CD burner
You can get a DVD or DVD-RW and burn it from windows media player.
