the cam position is where the distrubtor use to be in the back of the motor and depending on the year is weather it is a 3 pin or 2 pin
under distributor cap 3 wireplug in harness .
The cam position sensor is about midway down on the passenger side just below the head where the cam is located. It pulls out of the block sideways toward the passenger side front wheel. The connector going to it has 3 wires. Be careful not to break the connector retaining clip when disconnecting.

Coincidenatlly I just purchaased one for my 1999 Troop........Orielly's and I paid $145.00 with tax NOW where is it located..........
there is a 3 wire sensor bolted to the front cover of the engine. use a 10mm socket and remove the bolt. after unpluging the sensor carfully rotate the sensor up and down in order to loosen it from the engine. then pull out
remove the serpentine belt take off the power steering pump 3 bolts and lay on top of the motor the cam position sensor is right underneath where the power steering pump is real easy fix
its the actual throttle pedal. It is bolted in by 3 10mm bolts which you will need a deep socket to undo. Once that is un-done you can get to the sensor components by undoing the 5 x-headed screws.
I had an intermittent problem with that sensor on my PA. When the error code in the computer was checked, it showed up as a problem. I had it replaced. The cam sensor can cause a similar problem.
either cam shaft sensor or crankshaft sensor or air flow meter are the common 3 things
What year is it if its an 84-89 its located in the distributer. take off the dust cover just a couple of screws, then u will see 3 screws holding the sensor down remove those and pull the sensor out and replace.
