According to the IMDG 2.5.3.2.1 The available oxygen content (%) of an organic peroxide formulation is given by the formula 16 x Σ(ni x ci/mi) Where ni = number of peroxygen groups per molecule of organic peroxide i ci = concentration (mass %) or organic peroxide i; mi = molecular mass of organic peroxide i.

divide 8 by half the molecular weight and multiply by 100.

Same as for hydrogen peroxide. You substitude H for RCO.

Do carboxylic acids get oxisidized?

Yes, to peroxy carboxylic acids.

What will be the reaction of Hydrogen peroxide with esters?

Peroxide is a good nucleophile, it might be strong enough for an addition-elimination reaction to form a peroxy acid and the alcohol. Depending on the stability of the peroxy acid, it might decompose to the carboxylic acid.

Mechanism of oxidation of fluorene to fluorenone?

I'm not positive about the correct mechanism, but I can propose one that seems plausible. Oxygen can exist as a singlet or triplet species. The triplet species (O-O with 2 lone pairs and a radical on each O) is the ground state species, so unless O2 is excited, it will most likely react in this manner. Using that assumption, O2 can abstract a proton radical from flourene to form a fluorene radical (with the radical at the benzylic position). This is the initiation of a radical chain process. Next, the peroxy radical can attach to the fluorene radical (thus terminating the chain). Alternatively, another O2 molecule can attach to the fluorene radical. This peroxy fluroene radical can abstract a proton from a fluorene molecule, propogating a fluorene radical. In either case, the resulting species is a peroxy fluorene molecule. Now, you can draw a mechanism where a hydroxide anion (the reaction is run in base) pulls off the remaining benzylic proton, pushing electrons into a carbon to oxygen pi bond, and breaking the oxygen-oxygen single bond to release hydroxide. As I said, I have no evidence for this mechanism, just using my chemical knowledge and experience.

What is the sum of the oxidation numbers of all the atoms in the peroxydisulfate ion S2O82?

+6 2x-12-2=-2 2x=12 x=6 This is because there are 1 peroxy bond in S2O82- because of which 2 of the 8 oxygen atoms have -1 oxidation state other 6 Oxygen atoms have -2

What is perbenzoic acid?

Peroxybenzoic acid is a simple peroxy acid. It may be synthesized from benzoic acid and hydrogen peroxide,[2] or by the treatment of benzoyl peroxide with sodium methoxide, followed by acidification.[3]Like other peroxyacids, it may be used to generate epoxides, such as styrene oxide from styrene:[4]

What is the balanced chemical equation for ozone?

Ozone is commonly produced when Nitrogen Oxides, Carbon Monoxide, VOC's (Volatile Organic Compounds) react in the presence of sunlight. In the simplest terms Ozone is formed by an atomic oxygen atom synthesizing with a diatomic oxygen molecule and a third molecule M acting as a stabilizer to take away excess energy. However when explaining the series of reactions that take place in the formation of Ozone almost always you will find that the reaction is initiated by various VOC's or Carbon Monoxide reacting with the Hydroxyl radical; this is followed by the conversion of Nitrogen Oxide into Nitrogen Dioxide, then the photolysis of Nitrogen Dioxide to produce atomic Oxygen, which in turn combines with diatomic Oxygen to produce Ozone. The following reaction is initiated by Carbon Monoxide:OH + CO--> H + CO2(A Hydrogen atom is formed by the reaction of Carbon Monoxide and the Hydroxyl radical)H + O2 -->HO2 (In turn the Hydrogen atom reacts with the surrounding oxygen to produce the Peroxy radical HO2)HO2 + NO--> OH + NO2(Peroxy radical HO2 reacts with Nitrogen Oxide to produce Nitrogen Dioxide)NO2+ hv (wavelengths 200-420 NM)--> NO + O (Nitrogen Dioxide is photolysed, photo-Dissociated back into Nitrogen oxide, and produced Atomic Oxygen)O2 + O + M --> O3 + M (atomic oxygen formed in the previous reaction reacts with Oxygen and the stabilizer molecule M)----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------O2 + .O. -> O3A molecule of oxygen with a oxygen free radical (that has 2 unpaired electrons), makes an ozone molecule.

What is ORAC?

Scientists developed techniques to measure the antioxidant capacity of foods, of which Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) is one. The ORAC assay, developed at the National Institute on Aging, measures the degree of inhibition of peroxy-radical-induced oxidation and includes both inhibition time and the extent of inhibition of oxidation. While ORAC scores do provide some measurable means to compare foods and antioxidant products, there are some problems with ORAC testing. One of the biggest problems is that the results are based on weight or volume, and can be manipulated based on removing water. Dried fruit, therefore, scores higher than fresh fruit.
