The number of electrons in an atom is always equal to the number of protons in that same atom. Since the Atomic Mass of a periodic element equals the weight of the atoms protons AND its neutrons, the following equation can be used to calculate the number of any given particle in an atom: number of neutrons = atomic mass - atomic number

All atoms are neutral. If it were not neutral it would be an ion. To work out the number of particles you need two quantities. The atomic number, also called the proton number, gives you the number of protons in the nucleus. This is equal to the number of electrons. To find the number of neutrons you also need the mass number. Take the atomic number away from the mass number to get the number of neutrons.

What is the number of protons neutrons and electrons in the neutral atom bromine-80?

protons-35 neutrons-45 electrons-35

How many protons neutrons and electrons are in a neutral atom of 64Cu atomic number 29?

There are similar number of neutrons and protons. It contains 29 neutrons and protons.

Is an atom neutral if it has a greater number of electrons than protons?

False. An atom is neutral if it has an equal number of protons and neutrons

Will an atom with 27 protons 32 neutrons and 27 electrons be electrically neutral?

Neutrons have no charge. When the number of protons of an atom is equal to the number of electrons in it, the atom is neutral, in other words, it has no charge.

What number is used to determine how many electrons are in a neutral atom?

The atomic number (the number of protons in the atom). Neutral charge = 0 = (number of protons - number of neutrons). Therefore, number of protons = number of neutrons

Neutral atoms of the same element can differ in their number of what?

Neutrons. If the differ in electrons they are not neutral and if they differ in protons then they are no longer the same element as the number of protons determines the name of the element.

A neutral atom has the same number of protons as it does neutrons?

no. an atom is made up of protons neutrons and electrons. protons have a charge of plus one electrons have a charge of minus one neutrons have no charge. therefore the number of protons and electrons must be equal (balancing the charges) for the atom to be neutral. ;)

An atom which has 4 protons and 6 neutrons will be electrically neutral if it contains?

It will have 6 electrons since an atom is neutral when its number of protons is the same as its number of electrons.

How do you find the number of electrons in an atom if you know the number of protons and neutrons?

In a neutral atom, the number of electrons is equal to the number of protons of the nucleus.

How many protons neutrons and electrons are there in a neutral atom of 30P phophorus-30?

There are similar number of electrons and protons. it has 15 electrons and protons.

How many protons neutrons and electrons are in a nitrogen 15?

7 protons , 8 neutrons and 7 electrons in the neutral atom. Nitrogen has an atomic number of 7. The atomic number is the number of protons in the nucleus. In the neutral atom this is also the number of electrons . The "15" in nitrogen-15 is the mass number, the total number of protons and neutrons in the nucleus. Taking 7 from 15 there are therefore 8 neutrons in nitrogen-15.

Is an atom that has the same number of protons as neutrons a neutral atom?

False. The atom that has the same number of protons as it has electrons is a neutral atom.
