Most toll-free telephone numbers are specific to one country, or to the group of countries using the North American telephone numbering system (country code +1 = USA, Canada, etc.). They are generally not toll-free, and may not even be reachable, from outside their home country. There are also international toll-free numbers, using telephone country code +800, that are toll-free from any participating country in the world. To call a toll-free number from outside its service area, you can try dialing the number as if it were an ordinary geographic number (for example, for a North American toll-free number, dial it as +1 855 555 0123); if the call goes through, you will usually pay the normal international call rates. You can also try using a "Home Country Direct" service, although you will probably pay a substantial premium, unless the owner of the toll-free number has made special arrangements.
