Once you commit to a bid, you have entered a binding contract and must pay the seller for the item if you win it, so it is very important that you only ever bid the absolute maximum amount that you are willing to pay.
There are very few exceptions to this contract, and you cannot normally cancel (or retract) your bid unless you can meet any one of the specific requirements, as follows:
i)if you mistyped your bid, e.g., you mistakenly typed 59.50 instead of 5.95
ii)if the description of the item has substantially changed since you placed your bid, i.e., the seller has released further details with regards to condition
or
iii) if you cannot reach the seller by email or telephone
There are also time limits involved. You can only retract your bid if you placed it and are retracting it before the last 12 hours of the auction. If you place a bid within the last 12 hours of the auction, you may only retract the bid within one hour of placing it.
If you meet one or more of these criteria, you may fill out the form to request a bid retraction by clicking on "retract bid" link at the bid history page.
If you do not meet the conditions to retract a bid, your recourse is to contact the seller. Explain the situation to them and ask them to cancel your bid. They are under no obligation to do so.
Copy your item number. You will find this on the page where you placed your bid or on your summary page (there is a summary tab at the top of your home page). Type in retract bid in the search box of eBay. This will take you to the place where they ask info on why your retracting your bid. Choose a choice, any choice will do. They don't judge you or give you a lower rating for retracting a bid if you don't do it often and if it's not too late into the auction's ending. It will ask for the item number, type that in there and hit enter and there you go. Your bid has been cancelled!

It is impossible to cancel a bid; or a sale once the howrse has been bid on. If you didn't want to sell it you shouldn't have put it up for sale! Sorry! LeaBuff

It does not cost to place a bid on EBay. If the time runs out and you are the winner, you will have to pay for the item.
The maximum bid on eBay is the highest amount you want to pay for example; if you want to go no higher than twenty pounds or dollars that would be your max (maximum) bid.
