Take off the back panel and access the reverse lights that way. You need to take off the pull down strap (2 Phillips head screws) and the two large plastic nuts that are in the bottom center of the panel (use a flat head to lever them out a bit, then pull with needle nose pliers).
Pull the back panel down until you can access the two reverse lights. Change both of them while you're in there. You may need to replace a few of the plastic panel nuts/clips. Get a few when you go to the auto parts store for the bulbs.
Total cost for me? 20 minutes and $8 (2 bulbs and 3 plastic panel nuts/clips)
Total cost at the dealer? Close to $60 bucks and your truck is out of action for a couple of hours.

To change the reverse lights on a Pontiac Sunfire you need to locate it on the left side of the transaxle. Then, unplug the electric connector and remove the switch along with the socket.
Either a short to power in the circuit or a defective switch.
That is a safety feature, but to the left of steering wheel the first button you can turn to off to turn them off,but if you do that, you won't have day time running lights
