depends on what tranny u have< if it is a turbo 400 then u just drop the trany and punch out the knuckle and put a new shifter onto it.... if it is a 500 or bigger it is different cause u are running a comp tyranny hope this helps
where is the shift solinoid located on a 2005 chevy cobalt. and how do you change it

sounds like selector in transmission is broken if you can move the shifter but the trans does not change you may have broken the shift cable.
It's Broken ya tard!
Is this a standard transmission, or an automatic? automatic
Shift linkage broken,or trans bad. OR axle came out, or broken.
If the transmission on a 1999 Chevy 4x4 will not shift into high gear, there could be a problem with the shift solenoid. There could also be a problem with a broken belt inside the transmission.
I have not ever worked on this model, but here's something to try. Disconnect it at the transmission shift linkage on the transmission and see if it will shift by hand. if it will then you will need to look at the cables, rods or the shifter mechanism.Maybe something is worn, bent or broken.
There is a torx screw on the same side as the button, unscrew it half way and lift up the shift with the boot.
The linkage to the transmission may be broken. There may also be a problem with the shift censor as well.
The shift link cable could be broken, or the 1st/2nd shift fork, inside the transmission, could be damaged.
Buy the Cable , then remove the screws that hold the broken cable and attach the new cable back.
