it is not too bad remove the gearbox then remove the engine mounting bolts and the fuel pipes unbolt the front prop-shaft unplug the engine wirering connection then comes out the same way down as the gearbox it will take about 5 hours tops
Check the gearbox mounting.
Usualy three front and two sides the back is held up by the gearbox which is in turn held up by the gearbox mount.
It is connected to the rear of the engine, which faces longitudinally in the vehicle. So the gearbox should be somewhere between the front seats.
on the front of the gear box there is a plastic wing nut undo this and fill to the bottom of the hole
If you look on the front of the engine, the engine number is etched in to the block next to the gearbox bellhousing.Plse look atwww.zetecinside.com/xr2/stepbystep.shtml
it on the front of engine up over main pulley
Just swapped a 1.1 getz geabox a bit fidly but not too bad-remove front subframe pull out drive shafts disconnect steering and roll bar disconnect gear change and electrical plugs(2) undo gearbox mount drop engine slightly and support split gearbox away from engine and remove downwards it took me about 9 hours but I don't do this for a living regards Dave k
Looking from front of car to engine look just behind headlamp on top of gearbox and theres a two pin plug connected to switch which screws into gearbox housing
it depends with models of cars but mostly they are fitted at the front of the engine
The system is simpler with less parts, therefore less costly. Engine in front, front drive adds the complication of having to steer the driven wheels. Engine in front, rear drive adds the requirement for a driveshaft, and the second gearbox for the differential.
With great difficulty, u need to lower the front subframe and dependeing on the engine and gearbox fitted, you may need to raise the engine slightly.
