If you are looking for the 3rd gen they are two blue loops of wire on the harness that is just below the master cylinder on the wheel well.

I would suggest purchasing the CNC milled metal gear, as the gear that comes stock with the headlight motor is nylon and has a tendency to get stripped.
Does your Firebird have a Chevy or Pontiac motor in it?If it is a Pontiac motor, you will need an adapter from Summit or Jeg's.Also, it could be a different output shaft length and spline count.

The 1986 Firebird came with either a 2.8L V6 or a 5.0L V8
The gears in your headlight motor are actually grinding. My 2000 firebird did that. I just replaced the headlight motor. You can get replacement motors at pretty much any autopart store for around $50.00.
The 1986 Pontiac Firebird fan relay switch can be found on the back of the fan motor. The relay switch is connected to the fan motor by two retaining screws.
