It's kind of a pain, either you take the whole engine out, OR you put the car up on a lift. (I did the second) The starter/solenoid unit is located on the bottom of the engine and is held in by 3 bolts. The first two will come out no problem, the third took me about and hour and a half to get out. It is EXTREMELY hard to reach...but it can be done. Putting the new one back in is just like taking the old one out, just backwards. ALSO, don't forget to unhook the battery.
Almost all body parts from a 94 will fit on a 91.
This usually happens when the starter drive goes bad or if the flywheel has been damaged by the starter or previous starter failure. When you pull the starter to have a look, turn the flywheel and check all the teeth on it before replacing the starter.

If its the same as my 95 eldorado (4.6 northstar) you need to remove the intake manifold , the starter is in the valley pan.

its located next to the oil filter, its the alternator next to the oil filter and next to that is the starter!!! i know cause i had to change mine.
