Follow the top radiator hose to where it connects to the engine. This is the thermostat housing and the thermostat is inside there.
If you follow the top radiator hose torwards the motor,it will be hooked to the thermostat houseing.Remove the two bolts and the houseing and there it is.
The spring goes towards the engine , and if the engine thermostat has a vent hole , the hole goes at the top
Follow the top radiator hose from the radiator , it connects to a metal pipe which is part of the thermostat housing which is bolted to the front of the engine . The engine thermostat is inside the thermostat housing

According to one of the Ford websites : The 1993 Ford F-150 , with the 4.9 liter ( 300 cubic inch ) inline six cylinder has a ( 192 * Fahrenheit engine cooling thermostat )
Follow the top radiator hose from your radiator , it connects to a metal pipe , the other end of the metal pipe is connected to the thermostat housing , the thermostat is inside the thermostat housing which is bolted to the front of the engine
sounds like the water pump .
