I have recently changed the cabin filter in my 2006 Monte Carlo LTZ and it was pretty easy. Its located under the wiper blade on passenger side. You have to remove half way the black rubber hood seal to get to the clips of the cover of the filter housing.I would think, its better to change it in the summer months where all that plastic is warm & perhaps somewhat softer so it doesn't crack on you.GOOD LUCK & it takes about 20 min. to do this.
Under the air filter box. You'll have to remove the box to get at it.
