Be sure to buy the right refill. The refill kit should come with exact directions. This only applies for inkjet printers.
The gameboy printer doesn't use ink, it uses special carbon paper and there's a mechanism in the printer that burns the picture on the carbon paper, if your pictures are not coming out well, try replacing the batteries on the printer and see if that works, if not, you might have to buy a new printer
