When I bought my '96 Sierra 1500 Z71 approx. 3yrs ago I replaced the front rotors and had the same problem. I think that I ended up breaking 3 snap-on impact sockets in the process. I sprayed everything down with a rust penetrating lubricant and let it sit and soak in for a while then resprayed it again. I think I used a HUGE impact on it and then resorted to a 3/4" rachet/socket with a monster break over bar on it. It took a while and a lot of strength, but eventually cracked. I suggest getting a good rust penetrating spray, like a BG product or something similar, and soaking all the nuts and bolts in that multiple times. Good Luck!!!
AnswerI am currently trying to change the same rotors for a 1997 Sierra. Having a 3/4 ton pickup with 4wd. Engine 5.7 with Allison trannie. The attempt I have made starts with removal of the caliper. then there are 3 bolts that mont the caliper frame to the hub. this hub also seems to extend through rotors and has a 5/16" plate that mounts to rotor . So far 3 sokets have broken and I do not try heating it. As is I had to heat the lug nuts off and wack the rim with a sledge as the metal rim bonded with rear drums and front rotor. I hope to complete this in a week , it is my plow truck and need it in better shape.Change front brake rotors on a 1998 Hyundai Accent?
wear gloves, bearings all come out. then you have to remove the sensor off the back of it. along with 6 17mm bolts. How do you change the rotors in the front on a 1998 Isuzu Trooper
1500 or 2500???
They are free floating rotors , Remove the caliper and the rotors should pull off. If not they may be gaulded on and you will need to use a hammer to help them off
I can't even get them off

Front or rear rotors and 2 wheel or 4 wheel drive, it makes a difference.

Tap on your 1998 Mazda brake rotors with a hammer or mallet until they become loose. The brake rotors will simply slide off.

Removing Front & Rear Rotors Well Guys... I remove my Front & Rear Rotors out of my 1998 Ford Expedition XLT. I rented a 3 Jaw Puller from Auto Zone and a bottle of PB Blaster and a sledge hammer it only took about one hour or less to take both off... The way I removed the Front & Rear Rotors was ... 1. I put lots of PB Blaster in the back and the front of the rotors to be removed. 2. I put plenty of tension with the 3 Jaw Puller... 3. I hit the back of the rotor with the sledge hammer... And it came right off... Hope this helps someone out there...
2 wheel or 4 wheel drive makes a big difference.
