On the bottom and side of the transmission, there is a plug. Using a wrench, remove the plug. Because the gear oil is so thick, I recommend using the machine for awhile to get the oil flowing easier plus it stirs things up so all the contaminants come out. To add oil, easiest thing to do is remove the T handle that holds the handle bars in. Then use a funnel and pour in new 90 or 140 gear oil. Before you do this, though, remove the plug on the upper side of the transmission case as A) this will allow air to escape and B) when gear oil comes out, you know it is full. Get yourself a manual as all of this is well detailed.

How do you replace troy-bilt string trimmer head?

Looking between the gear box assembly (metal housing) and the top of the trimmer head, locate a u-shaped slot found on either side of the gear box assembly. If you rotate the trimmer head slowly while looking into that slot you will see a mating u-shaped cutout. Place a screwdriver, Allen wrench or anything that will prevent the internal mechanics from rotating. Now turn the trimmer head counterclockwise and it will unscrew from the gear box shaft.

How do you remove the head off Troy-bilt TB575SS 4 stroke weed eater that you would like to replace the straight shaft bump head with a replacement that is fixed line?

You have to take the all of the rings off the inside of the head attached to the shaft off. basically disassemble the entire existing head piece by piece on the inside of the head. Major pain in the butt, and good luck finding a head that will work. Ive tried everything from taking the gear housing and getting another gear that holds the head on to fit so I didnt have to use the crappy head troy bilt gives you. Oh well good luck, you need it.
