I have heard quite good experiences with the astra 1.6 and 1.8 and no notable problems with the engine considering I come fro Kenya where drivers do not follow the service schedules keenly. One notable concern is the ignition control module that replacement after about 60k. (symptoms are jerking and lack of power) And then the timing belt. If it snaps, you are in for a big big surprise.
