How do you change oil on a Pontiac fiero?

Changing oil in a Fiero is no different than any other vehicle.

All Fieros, regardless of four cylinder or six cylinder, will have the oil filter located at the "front" (closet part of the engine towards the firewall) of the engine. It's difficult to see even jacked up, but it's between the catalytic converter and the firewall. The only exception to this is some '87 four cylinder and all '88 four cylinder cars, which utilized a small in-pan oil filter element, which requires you pulling the filter directly from the pan itself. If you are unsure about change the oil take it somewhere like Jiffy Lube that uses a inground pit, NOT A LIFT, to change oil.

First, either jack the car up in the rear or roll it onto wheel stands. The oil pan is easily identifiable on the passenger side of the car. Drain the oil, and remove the oil filter, taking note of the location as mentioned prior. Place a new filter into place and reattach the oil drain plug.

Capacity figures can vary. If you have the four cylinder car and use the filter that is given to you at parts stores, capacity will be somewhere around 4 to 4.3 quarts of oil depending on condition (sludge can cause inaccurate oil readings). One does not typically have to worry much with the four cylinder cars because they are really built like tanks, but you should still check that you don't ever go below four quarts.

If you have the V6, purchase an AC Delco PF52 oil filer and place exactly five quarts of oil into the crank case. This is important if you own an '85 model with the V6 because you will not have an oil pressure gauge and doing this will up your oil capacity and give a bit better oil pressure. I just for rule of thumb do this on all V6 Fieros I work on and both my V6 GT and Formula to be safe.
