Both Brake shoes and disc brake pads are very easy to replace. Do it at your own risks. Here is the procedure: Taking out old brake shoes: 1. Park Sienna on a level road (for safety). 2. Take out the wheel cover (if you have one). Loosen the 5 wheel nuts & Jackup the wheel and put stoppers at the other wheel tires (for safety). 3. Take out the wheel, mark drum and hub (to put it back at the same location) and then the brake drum (note you don't put the foot brake on (parking brake) or you will have difficulty to take out the brake drum. Slightly tap the drum if it is sticky. 4. Clean brake dusts out and Take a digital photos of the brake shoes and especially the springs. 5. Unhook the return spring with a pair of pliers. 6. Remove the automatic adjuster. 7. Depress the cup of the hold-down spring on the brake shoe and turn 90 deg to take out the spring. 8. Remove the adjuster and unhook the anchor spring. Take out the brake shoes. 9. Repeat step 7 and step 8 to loosen the other brake shoe. 10. Pry open clip on the brake lever and separate the rear brake shoe from the brake cable lever. Installing new brake shoes: 11. Assemble the new rear brake shoe to the brake lever with the clip. Deform the clip so that it will not fall off. 12. Insert Hold-down pin and put back the hold-down spring cup and turn 90 degree. 13. Insert low return spring on the rear brake shoe and Install the front Brake shoe with hold-down pin and spring cup and turn 90 degree. Pull the low spring with a pair of pliers and put the spring onto the front brake shoe anchor hole. 14. Put back the automatic adjuster assembly and install the adjuster lever. 15. Use pliers to install the upper return spring onto the upper part of the brake shoes. Check against the digital photo that you did not make any mistakes. 16. Put back the brake drum, the wheel and the 5 nuts hand tightened. 17. Lower the jack and take out the stoppers. Tighten the 5 wheel nuts and install the wheel cover. 18. Start engine and pump brake so that the automatic adjuster is in correct position before driving. 19. Done. If this is your 1st time to change the brake shoes, suggest you buy a Chilton Repair manual (about$20 from Amazon.com) to be familiar with brake shoes and components before taking apart the dismantling procedure.
