The 1996 Ford Ranger 2.3 L engine has Fords Twin Plug ignition system , so it has ( 8 spark plugs )
How do you install spark plugs on a 96 nissan maxima?
On a 1996 Ford Ranger : Check the Vehicle Emissions Control Information ( VECI ) decal located in the front of your engine compartment ( it will show the type of spark plugs to use and the spark plug gap )
if you can get it on a hoist...its so much easier and quicker from below...trust me
I've done the job on my '96 2.3 Ranger XLT simply using a flexible spring-like socket extension. You can get it on any respectable tool store. Mine is about 10 inches long. It was more difficult to insert the cables back than replacing the spark plugs. Even so, it didn't took more than 1 hour.
A 96 maxima does not have "a distributor" it has 6 individual distributors or coil packs. One for each cylinder/spark plug. They are on the top side of the spark plugs.
you dont rotate it you have to pull the altnator off to change them

The spark plugs in this car are on the side of the engine. They are seen after the engine cover is removed.
