Park car on level surface.
1) Remove spare tire
2) Remove FILLER (top) bolt on differential
3) Place collection pan in appropriate location
4) Remove DRAIN (bottom) bolt on differential
5) Allow to drain until fluid drips / trickles out
6) Wipe crud off of drain bolt
7) Remove old and replace with new washers for drain and filler bolts (they are different sizes)
8) Install drain bolt. Torque to 33ft-lb.
9) Pump Honda VTM-4 Fluid (do not substitute) into filler hole. It takes ~3 quarts. Stop pumping when fluid starts trickling out.
10) Install filler bolt. Slightly tighten.
11) Drive car backward and forwards 3-4 times each direction.
12) Remove filler bolt. Pump additional VTM-4 fluid until it begins to trickle out.
13) Install filler bolt. Torque to 35 ft-lb.
14) Wipe off any spilled fluid.
15) Check pressure in spare tire. Inflate if necessary.
16)Install spare tire. Tighten until spring just starts to compress (go any further and you risk snapping the spare tire cable).
17) Properly dispose of used VTM-4 fluid.
Celebrate that you just saved yourself $60 in labor. In my area, the rate is $90 for the job and it takes $30 in parts / fluid. Torque specs are for 2005 model. Check your manual or call the service department. My manual only listed the filler bolt torque spec.
