Take off the distributor cap, make sure that rotor is pointing to the number 4 plug. get help from a friend and have the watch the rotor as you tap the engine slowly. Whene you get it lined up with four, simply place the new cap on correctly.

There is no "chip" that can be replaced in the distributor, it is serviced as a unit. There is no chip in the distributor cap.

To change the distributor rotor on a1998 Honda Civic unplug the spark plug wires from the cap. Loosen the screws and remove the cap on the unit. Be sure to properly line the new cap on the distributor and install.

buy a new distributor cap and rotor. Unscrew the distributor cap (on the drivers side of the engine block), take note how the existing rotor is sitting, remove it, and place the new rotor in the same position. Put on the distributor cap and screw it into place... very simple job. thats how you change the rotor......he asked about the distributor....try again.

buy your parts,usually change plugs to.make marks on your distributor or usually they are marked with dent.replace distirbutor cap and replace the cabels .with numbers.
I don't think the 97 has a distriburetor.
