It's kinda challenging. Ok, first disconnect the battery cable. remove the distr cap without removing the plug wires. you can disconnect the other wires if you need to. you will. try to move the cap away from the dist. Mark the location of the rotor on the dist and on the intake with a marker so you will know exactly where it was. take the bolt out under the dist that holds it down. Pull the dist up and out. It's now time to install the new dist. Place it in the hole with a new gasket. turn the distr until it's sitting exactly how the old one was. some will have a vacum pod for the advance, use that for a reference. Now turn the rotor until it's sitting exactly where the old rotor was. It SHOULD set all the way in. If it doesn't, lifet it and try again. It's very easy to be one or two teeth off on the drive plus you have to match the oil pump drive at the same time. Take your time and get it perfect. Once you have it all the way in, bolt it down, reconnect the wires, reinstall the cap and your ready to ride. That's the easiest way I know how to do it. Good luck, my man.
305 is the same distributor as a 350 will even fit some big block chevy's.

where does the hot wire come from going to the distributor on a chevy 350
The distributor should face forward rather than backward on the Chevy 350. It is important to mark the front face of the distributor before removing it.
