Replacement is usually not a do-it yourself job. Depending on where the plug is located the engine might need removing or partial disassembling. Freeze plugs are usually removed by tapping on one side with a chisel and hammer, then grabbing with a pair of pliers. Installation is done by hammering them in with a special driver.
