Well you pop the bonnet, and look directly behind the headlamp. You'll see a little bolt and a big bolt. Undo the bigger bolt on top, and it'll be loose. Use that advantage to disconnect the connectors (there's two a big one in the middle and a little one below it) and after that, pull it off the adjusters. Then on the back remove the rubber seal I the middle it's shaped like a cup and has 4 tabs you can pull on. Then you'll see a little metal thing that curves around the back where it connects, push that down a little and slide it from its clip like a bobby pin, and the bulb will come right out. The little bulb is just a twist and it pops out. Reverse for installation.

I am not sure on the later Discovery's but on my '95 Series 1, the culprit is the brake light switch. Easy to change - when it goes it does not allow the vehicle to move from park. Call any of the Rover parts catalogs and they can walk you through it.

You cannot change the bulb you have to change the whole headlight. Which is actually cheaper than you think. It cost me 11.97 for 1 headlight. Saturn calls it a Sealed Beam 2e1 headlight. So to change this all you need is a torx head screwdriver to remove the old headlight and install the new one. The only dissapointment is there is no way to change the bulb, i wanted to make it a blue tinted color but of you try to break the seal... the headlight will not function properly.
