on the ignition switch down by the hazard light control you will see a pin hole turn the lock cylinder to run push a small punch eighth inch iI think may bre smaller.then you will be able to slide the cylinder out may have to pry a little. If you don't have the key you will have to drill the pin out.

you have to go under the dash and take out the steering column. and the ignition switch should have a wire going down to the bottom of the column coming from the ignition lock.

95 truck manthe ignition switch is the thing you stick your truck key into to start the motor.the starter is under the hood, located at the bottom of the engine.follow the "hot" lead frpm the battery.goes right to the starter motor. Nope, this guy is wrong. The thing you stick your key in is the ignition cylinder or lock. The ignition switch is a separate unit. Both are available for replacement. The cylinder itself is just a mechanical unit which operates the electro-mechanical ignition switch located a bit further down the column.

The ignition lock is where you put the key. The ignition switch is located on the top of the steering column directly above the brake pedal.

Bad ignition switch or wrong key.Just replace with new switch about $10.00 NAPA

User Avatar

NO, there is no coalition between the ignition switch and the transmission. The ignition switch does 2 things. Turns on power to the electrical system for the engine and supplies power to the starter during start-up.

If this has the locking tilt wheel it is better to find a salvage yard and get the entire steering assembly . Can get for around $100. Parts and time for replacing the Ignition assembly if you can do it at all will not be worth the effort.

might be something with starter/solenoid assembly or the crank wire circuit coming from the ignition switch.

Your brake light ignition switch should be replaced. It works your brake lights and ignition switch, so you do need it. It only costs about $7 dollars.

Ignition relay is probably shot. It is in the power distribution block in the motor comprtment.

To change the speedometer cable on a 1990 Toyota truck, disconnect the cable, feeding it through the grommet, then disconnect it from the transmission. The process can then be reversed with the new cable.

No! The ECM is the Electronic Control Module (Computer), sometimes called ECU, Electronic Control Unit. The ignition switch is just that, the switch that controls the engine ignition, the power to the starter, starting and shutting the engine off, and power to the accessories.

Have the neutral safety switch checked. Pop the hood, hold a key across the screw posts on the solinoid. it should start......make sure ignition is on and truck in Neutral.

User Avatar

I believe you need to pull the steering wheel off and get in the steering column that way. I had this done on a previous car, (expensive) so this time I just hot wired to the starter and added a tago switch.

I suggest that you take it to the garage since you can deploy the air bag accidentally. 1990 with airbags? My 1990 does not have an airbag. I suggest removing the steering wheel. Then remove the turn signal assembly. There should be 1 or 2 screws holding the switch in place.
