I did this recently to my 96. I am just a backyard mechanic so I am not going to attempt to spell it all out for fear I might forget something. What I will tell you though, is if you do decide to do it yourself be sure to spend the extra money and get the UPGRADED aluminum gaskets from a dealer. They were $80 instead of $50 for Felpro set. Also, if not already done, replace the upper intake as well(this is the plastic humped shaped piece on the top of the engine). You have to take this off anyway to do the lower gaskets. Here however DO NOT buy the GM piece. Aftermarket companies make one that has a metal sleeve in the port by the throttle body(EGR port) and a longer insert that goes into the lower intake itself. Thiswill fail over time if not replaced(usually between 110k-140k) due to the hot egr gasses eroding the port away until coolant leakes into the block. You do both of these and this engine will last a very long time. Good luck.

Not too hard for some with some mechanical ability. Noot all of us have it. Get a manual on your car from DISCOUNTAUTOREPAIRMANUALS.COM and see if you want to try it. This is a pretty big job.
