I just did this in my 97 Dakota. Remove the bolt at steering box & use a screwdriver/pry bar between box & shaft to get it apart. Under dash remove bolt connecting shaft & column. There is a bearing bolted to firewall on inside under dash. Don't have to remove but makes it easier (plus you will want to grease that bearing) Back under the hood push shaft toward firewall (shaft slides into itself) until you get a few inches of play. Pull shaft out of firewall then replace. That is a expen part at dealer $271. I got one out of a Durango for $25. Once you get the shaft to slide into its self (hard part) you should done within an hour.
