there are 2 screws hidden under where your ash tray is. remove the ashtray and you will see them underneath. after removing, the rest is just snapped on. Give a couple good pulls starting from bottom to top and it will expose your lighter. Unsnap your power from the backside, and unscrew the nut on the backside of the socket as well

If so answer is totally different.To prevent person's from disposining of vehicles via fire insurance that socket for the lighter is protected by a fuseable link which is built into the wire feeding the socket.Check it first.Borrow a lighter from someone else's car to make sure socket is dead not just element in lighter.

Where can you find the fuse box and fuse for lighter socket on a 1997 Nissan Maxima GLE?
After looking below the dash, I found the a primary fuse box with a simple release cover and a fuse diagram identifying all fuses contained there. The fuse for the lighter socket is marked "Cig Lighter" and is on left side. Conveniently located on the right side is a white fuse puller to remove and replace the fuse. The fuse is a blue mini 15 amp fuse.
