Depends on the operating system:

XP: Right click desktop, click Properties. Then click on Settings tab. You'll be able to adjust resolution from here.

Windows 7: Right click desktop, click on Personalize. Then click on Display (bottom left, where it says 'See Also'. On the top left you'll see a link that says Adjust Resolution. Click this and you'll be able to adjust resolution from here.

Vista multiple monitors with laptop?

This might be possible, yes. Much of this depends upon the graphics chipset and driver in use on your laptop. Many laptop graphics cards will allow you to use the laptop display panel as well as an external monitor at the same time. You may need to update your video drivers if you do not see the options to do that when you look at your display settings. WIndows should recognize that another external monitor is attached. IF will run it with a generic driver which may not be the most suitable. IF you have the driver install it. to manipulate it, go to COntrol Panel, Personalize, Display settings adn click accordingly. this is wehre you do all configuration, settings etc note that you can adjust the positioning fo the 2nd monitor in relation of the ist monitor or notebook. Choose extended if you want to run separate progams or applications on the second monitor. Sometimes when the NB is config. as such, and after disconnecting it, Windoes ( esp on XP), it still thinks that the second monitor is still connected. WHen the application does not appear on the only screen, tehn GO to this section and manuallly check off the second monitor...

How do you display an external monitor from laptop?

These instruction are for some laptops running WindowsXP they will be similar but not identical to other Windows OS versions. # Connect the extra monitor to the laptops video out port (probably with a D-SUB 15 cable. # If you are real lucky all you will have to do is figure out which "function" key will cycle between Built in monitor External monitor and both internal and external monitor. (on my Dell it's Function + F8 where is a key with blue letters to the lower left beside the Alt key) You are set! (you so have to wait a several seconds for the image to shift) If that doesn't work: # On the Desktop, right-click and choose Properties # Select the Settings tab of the dialog # Here you should have a sketch of the monitors available and dropdown list of monitors and be able to see your extra monitor there. If you do not then this instruction is too short for you and you will have to go the Advanced tab- I won't go into that because I do not know what graphics card you have. # Click on the screen in the sketch window and choose it as primary. You might have to adjust resolution so that things look good, you will do that by dragging the slider in the left center of the Settings tab of the Display Propertied dialog.
