Remove the old distributor cap from on top of the distributor but do not disconnect any plug wires. Push it aside. Remove the old rotor and install a new one. Then install the new distributor cap. Remove the plug wires from the old cap one at a time and plug then into the new cap in the same locations as they came off the old cap. Go around in a circle until all the old plug wires are plugged into the new cap. Discard the old cap. Now remove one plug wire from the new distributor cap and the corresponding spark plug, and choose a new wire the same length. Install that wire on the spark plug and connect the other end to the distributor. Repeat the process on all plug wires until all the old ones have been removed and replaced. Do not get them mixed up. By doing them one at a time you will have no problem.
change the plugs at 60,000 miles.
Change one at a time so not to mess up the firing order.
The spark travels from the coil to the distributor then from the distributor to the plugs. So if you have spark going into the distributor but not coming out to the plugs, I would blame the distributor cap and rotor being at fault.
