I just changed the rear axle on my 94 Tercel. once you get a new axle ( suggest you get a use one because of price). There is 2 bolts that go into the frame just under the rear seat area. you then pull the bolt sfrom the shocks and disconnect the brakes. Installation is just the reverse.
To change the rear axle fluid you can remove the rear cover from the axle and drain it that way. If you don't want to remove the rear cover you can use a pump and a hose to drain it through the fill hole.
Vehicles with front wheel drive have a straight rear axle meaning there is no gear housing in the rear axle. Vehicles that are rear wheel drive have a gear box in the middle of the rear axle to change the rotation of a drive shaft to turn the rear axle. If you look under a full size pick up truck rear axle you will see a large gear box (typically referred to as a pumpkin) in the middle area of the axle. That is the gear box differential.

To change the rear axle bearings on a Honda Rancher, start by removing the rear wheels and axle nut. Next, detach the axle from the differential and pull it out of the housing. Use a bearing puller to remove the old bearings and install new ones, ensuring they are properly seated. Finally, reassemble the axle, reinstall the wheels, and torque the axle nut to the manufacturer’s specifications.
The rear axle nut torque specification for a 1994 Toyota Tercel is typically around 100 ft-lbs (135 Nm). It's important to use a torque wrench to ensure the nut is tightened to the correct specification, which helps maintain proper wheel alignment and prevents bearing failure. Always refer to the vehicle's service manual for the most accurate and detailed information.
To change the rear axle on a 1998 vehicle, first, safely lift and support the vehicle on jack stands. Remove the rear wheels, then disconnect the brake lines and any suspension components connected to the axle. Unbolt the axle from the differential and any mounting brackets, then carefully slide the old axle out. Install the new axle by reversing the removal steps, ensuring all connections are secure before lowering the vehicle.
Yes you do. Just remove the grease cap, cotter pin, nut retainer, and nut, and the drum will slide easily off the axle.
Only if the rear axle is a drive axle.
Not unless you also change the wheel hub. This might require a complete rebuild of the rear axle.
