How do you change the shifter knob manual trans on a 95 GMC truck I tried everything and it wouldn't come off?

Get somebody to hold the shifter still while somebody twists and pulls the knob and it comes right off. Did it to mine yesterday. Good luck findin a new knob to fit it. Cause i couldnt!
