There are 2 ways to do this. One way is to remove the engine torque arm which is connected to the upper rad support ( the dog bone looking thing) and the other which I don't suggest unless you know what you are doing is to remove the throtle plenum.
replace spark plugs and wires
Ignition module. See if spark plug wires have arched. Check for spark. You could change it yourself. Module plus new wires will cost you around $200.
Spark plugs and wires
Disconnect the battery, and remove the spark plug wires one by one. Replace the spark plug wires in the same order, ensure the connection is firm, and connect the battery.

It means a cylinder 4 misfire. Check spark plugs, spark plus wires, possibly head gasket.
Get a shop manual. There is no distributor. These have coil packs.

The 1988 Chevy Cavalier spark plug wires are quite easy to remove. The spark plug wires simply pull off on each end. Put the new spark light wires on by pushing downward on each end.
you are not getting spark. this could be from a bad alternator, bad spark plugs, bad spark plug wires, or bad engine coils. The spark plugs and wires are the cheapest so try putting in new ones of those first.
change only one wires at a time,matching each to length.
